Thursday, September 17, 2009 • Posted September 17, 2009

The veterans of the Wiley B. Murray Post No. 27 will meet Wednesday, September 23rd and will host State Representative Harvey Hilderbran. Hilderbran will address the veterans group and present several Texas Service Medals. The meeting will be attended by members and their guests only and will not be open to the public.

Rep. Hilderbran (Republican) was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1988 and was most recently re-elected in 2008, to serve the people of District 53 to include San Saba County. Since January 2009, he has served as chairman of the House Committee on Culture, Recreation and Tourism. As chairman of the committee, he authored a comprehensive funding bill aimed at restoring excellence to the state park system, as well as our state's historic sites.

In the private sector, Rep. Hilderbran has worked in real estate, ranching, advertising and business management.

Hilderbran is a big supporter of veterans. In 1999, he was the recipient of the Vietnam Veterans of America Texas State Council's Legislature of the Year Award. In 2009, he championed for a deceased veteran who gave his life fighting in the War on Terror in Iraq, by naming a state highway after him. House Bill No. 471 authorized that State Highway 158 in Runnels County be named the ARMY SPECIALIST WILLIAM BYLER MEMORIAL HIGHWAY between FM 2887 and Ranch Road 211.

The legion post will open its doors at 5:30 PM and supper will be served at 6:30 PM. Veterans will be in uniform with their hats or dressed in coat and tie. Members are asked to bring a complimentary covered side dish, salad, bread or dessert. The main course will be barbecue brisket, chicken and red beans.
