8th Dillos fall to Goldthwaite 14-6

San Saba's 8th Dillos played the Goldthwaite 8th Eagles in Goldthwaite on Saturday, September 12th. The Thursday game was rained out. It was a great game with the Eagles pulling out the victory in the last seconds of the game. It was the season opener for both teams.

Goldthwaite kicked to San Saba to start the game. They tried an on-side which was short. The Dillos took over near midfield. Runs by Dallas Caldwell, Kelan Verette and Jordan Watson netted a first down. The Dillos ran 3 more plays and punted. Goldthwaite proceeded to drive the ball on the Dillos. The first quarter was scoreless.

The Eagles finished off their drive with a score early in the second quarter. The PAT failed, 6-0 Eagles. Goldthwaite's second attempt at an on-side kick was successful. The Eagles proceeded to eat up the clock for most of the second quarter. San Saba's defense led by Brian Rogers, Dylan Rosales, Kristian McCoury, Ismael Ramirez, Daniel Calderon, Ruben Aguirre, and Kolton Ellis forced the Eagles to give up the ball. San Saba took over in their own territory with 59 seconds to go to half. It was raining pretty hard but Kelan Verette found Jordan Watson open for 40 yards on a pass play. The next play, Verette hit Watson for a 15 yard touchdown. The PAT failed, 6-6 at half.

The third quarter was scoreless, both teams traded punts. San Saba had several first downs aided by the blocking of Ashton Krueger, Cosme Diaz,, Asa Harbour, J.T. Hibler, Cameron Rossi, Dustin Sloan, Wesley Gates, Brandon Amstead, Gunnar Hibler, and Brian Rogers.

The fourth quarter was scoreless until Goldthwaite was successful with a 50 yard pass play with 27 seconds left to pull out the win. The PAT was good, 14-6 Eagles. San Saba had one more chance with seconds left, but could not score. Both teams played hard. The 8th Dillos play Johnson City there Thursday night.
