Thanks to all the ones who bought tickets on our quilt for the fire department. The winning ticket was purchased at The Cherokee Grocery. Our congratulations go to Marilyn Smith from the Dallas area. She is the sister of Joyce Barnes who has a place in Cherokee. The raffle was a big success

and we thank all who bought tickets.

Jane Randolph spent last week in Dallas visiting Sabra and David Roberts.

Doug and Cyndi Suggs went to Houston to attend their son-in-law, Sam Baisden’s sisters funeral. She died in a car accident last week in Conroe.

Curt Mckneely had three friends spend the weekend with him at Cherokee. They went bird hunting. Daniel and Grant Josey go to A&M and they worked with Curt at camp this summer. Ethan Thomas is a real good friend that goes to San Angelo with Curt.

Cherokee Youth Football started the season off with a bang. The day consisted of blessed rain but made it difficult for the players and kept our cheerleaders under cover throughout the games.

The flag team had a victory over Lometa 20 to 6.

The team, made up of talented boys and a tough girl took the lead right away. David and K.O. brought in the points with 3 touchdowns and extra points. Brenden, Hank, Randall, Emma, Isaac, Frank, Witt, and Dax all played a major part in pulling flags, blocking, and running yardage. The kids did a great job and played hard.

The tackle team was at a disadvantage with their smaller team of 8 players to the 16 from Santa Anna. They played tough but lost 34-6. Kellen made a touchdown for the team and Lexi caught a kickoff and made some yardage. Uriel toughed out the game with an injured hand and Tori did an excellent job blocking. Carter picked up a fumble and made several tackles. Ethan, Michael and J.D. played a hard game of blocking and tackling Santa Anna’s best players. We are all proud of both teams, they are showing real spirit and learning the game. Keep up the hard work!

The games next Saturday will be in Rochelle.

Flag: 9:00am Cherokee vs. Santa Anna.
