Faithweaver Friends starts with miracles!
Thursday, September 17, 2009 • Posted September 17, 2009

Faithweaver Friends (FWF), the after-school program of the First United Methodist Church, got off to a miraculous start on Wednesday, September 9th. Were there real miracles that afternoon? You decide.

First, there was the rain. Lots of it. Almost three inches fell while the Faithweavers were meeting. San Saba has long needed rain and the downpour came the moment the Faithweavers meeting started. Coincidence or divine sign?

Next, there’s Monica Shahan. If there was ever an angel on Earth, it’s Monica. Vibrant, enthusiastic, intelligent, beautiful and funny. She’s the leader of the Faithweavers program. How do you think she showed up with just the right skills at just the right time?

Then, there are the other volunteers. People like Melanie Mathis, Mindy Cantu, Tracey Thomas, Nettie Oma Carpenter, Bandi Easterwood, Carol Littlefield, Trish Warren, Ann McElroy, Margaret Rice, Cherry Kay Lange, Lee and Kelly Murray, Misty Everett, Debbie Millican and Pastor Robin Pearcey. Do you think these incredible helpers are random participants or specially chosen?

Finally, there are the special children. Doesn’t everyone know that children are the best miracle? With their innocence and inquisitiveness and their ability to grasp and grow, children give us hope that the sun will shine tomorrow….and that more rain will come!

The Faithweavers Program meets every Wednesday afternoon from 3:45 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. The program features a Bible lesson with opportunities for the children to experience that lesson’s power. Last week, the children focused on the Israelites escape from Egypt and the parting of the Red Sea. The kids acted out the Red Sea drama and interacted with Theo, an adorable puppet (a.k.a. Trish Warren) who learned that when we’re scared we can trust God to help.

We believe more miracles are on the way. The people of the Methodist Church invite ALL the children of San Saba ages 5-9 to be a part of Faithweavers Friends. And, we’re prepared to help you participate. One of our generous donors will provide a scholarship for any child who needs one—the registration fee of $15 will be paid if you ask. And, another member has agreed to help with transportation.

To enroll in Faithweavers or get more information, please call the Church Office at 372-3120.

One more thing about those miracles. If you think it rained hard last week, just wait ‘til the Faithweavers tackle the lesson about Noah’s Ark!
