The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met September 3, 2009 for the monthly business meeting with the following ladies present: Sandee Hartley, Nell McHorse, Jo Ann Snow, Hattie Rogers, Bobbie Churchill, Becky Hardin, Jo Anne Hardy, and Anita Miles.

The President, Anita Miles, called the meeting to order and the opening prayer was led by the Club Chaplain, Nell McHorse. The Secretary, Hattie Rogers, read the minutes and they were approved as read. The Treasurer, Bobbie Churchill, gave the financial report.

Bobbie also gave a financial report for the Pecan Classic Summer Four Lady Tournament and Hattie gave a financial report on the concession stand and thanked all the ladies for working and participating.

Hattie Rogers, Nominating Committee Chair, announced the slate of officers for 2010. She explained that the committee wanted to keep Anita Miles as president as she has been working in close connection with the pro and the City during this transition period and is a member of the Advisory Board to the City.

Other officers presented: Vice President - Nell McHorse; Secretary - Jo Anne Hardy; Treasurer - Bobbie Churchill.

These officers were voted into office unanimously.

Stan Weik, the City Manger of the City of San Saba, was a special guest. Mr. Weik came to thank the ladies for so graciously donating the new fountain to the golf course. He also gave some of the goals the City has for the golf course.

There was a surprise announcement! We had planned to purchase another fountain when we had the funds for the pond, on the soon to be front nine and at the entrance of the San Saba River Golf Course that will be almost the first thing you view when entering our beautiful course. Becky Hardin has very generously given the City the funds to purchase this fountain! Becky and her husband, Larry, moved to San Saba several years ago and have been active and supportive members of the San Saba River Golf Course.

Larry now serves on the Advisory Board to the City and has been a previous board member. Becky has served as Club President and has been an active member of the Ladies Association. It was a great day for San Saba when the Hardins picked San Saba for their retirement home! A big big thanks to Becky!

We also had our pro, Keith Harris, and Scott Glaze present to take our picture with the new fountain for the San Saba News. Keith and Scott had their work cut out for them posing eight ladies for a picture. We wanted them to get our good side!

Keith expressed his appreciation of the Ladies Association and we can’t say enough about Keith Harris. He is what has made our course what it is today! The ladies have made many contributions through the years to the course. To mention a few, we built the rest room on the back side, built the pavilion, added many flowering plants and trees, had the tables and benches built and recently have had them resanded and repainted, painted and maintained the ladies rest room, furnished a nursery for the greens, helped pay on a new pump, and paid on the cement golf trails.

The ladies adjourned for play day with the Chair for September, Sandee Hartley, calling for a game of Nines. You got points for winning the hole, or placing second or third or for ties. The winner with the most points was Anita Miles, Sandee Hartley was Second, and Hattie Rogers was Third. Jo Ann Snow chipped in to win the chip in pot! Sandee Hartley scored the Low Gross and the Low Net for the day.

I urge you to drive down to our beautiful golf course just to look at the beautiful new fountain! It will be worth your trip and who knows, it might just make you want to become a golfer and learn to play and enjoy the gorgeous scenery and experience the thrill of “swinging!”
