September is “Homecoming Month” at San Saba Senior Center

“Homecoming Means Coming Home to What is in Your Heart”This has been one of the hottest summers on record, and it doesn’t seem to be over yet.

We’ve certainly had a lot of fun at the center this summer despite the heat. As we move into fall, (and hopefully some lovely fall-like weather too) there will be some new classes, more fun parties and a few surprises. Our “Ice Cream Social/50’s Party” was a big success. Thanks to everyone who brought ice cream and goodies.

Special prizes went to those who came in costume, including - Pat Belk, Violet Brown, Gene Dufner, Bertha Griffay, Nadine Maultsby, Earl Ray Sutton, and Betty Wilson.

In the spirit of homecoming, September will be the month we invite old and new friends back to the San Saba Senior Center. We are encouraging everyone to bring in their high school sports, activities and class photos for our month long “Homecoming Celebration”.

We will also be accepting nominations for our Homecoming King and Queen. If you haven’t been to the Senior Center in a while, come in and see all the changes we’ve made.

In September we will begin a new fitness class, Chair Exercise “Sit and Get Fit” (taught by Kaye Clancey R.N.) beginning Tuesday, September 8th at 11:00 a.m.

We are also signing up for craft classes including “Tie Pillow Making” and “Greeting Card Recycling”.

The Joy Singers continue to meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at 12:30 pm, and we also have a special project creating “Denim Cowboy Boot Christmas Stockings” for our friends and loved ones serving in the military. We need donations of denim material, volunteers to help assemble them, and names of people currently serving in the armed forces.
