The Central Texas College (CTC) Continuing Education Department is currently registering for classes in September. Course offerings include a variety on non-credit classes in areas such as fitness/exercise, computers, home décor and more. Some of the available classes include:
Computer Concepts: This beginning class provides an overview of computer and Internet technologies. It includes applications of software, operating systems, the Internet and e-mail, computer hardware and basic data, information and files. The class meets each Tuesday/Thursday, September 8 – 24, from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. The cost is $99.
Word 2007: Explore the basics of this popular word processing package in this beginning level class. The course includes editing, formatting, proofing tools and how to create professional-looking documents using wizards and templates. The class meets each Tuesday/Thursday, September 8 – 17, from 1 – 5 p.m. The cost is $74.
Heartsaver AED with First Aid: Learn how to administer CPR effectively. The class is Saturday, September 5 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The cost is $43 plus the cost of the course book.
Water Aerobics for lifelong learners (age 50 and up): This fun workout class includes easy-to-follow exercise routines to improve cardiovascular conditioning, strength and flexibility. The class meets each Tuesday/Thursday, September 8 – October 15, from 9 – 10 a.m. The cost is $36.
Jazzercise: The class offers a blend of jazz dance and exercise science with simple choreography to provide a high-intensity aerobic workout muscle toning and strength training. The class meets each Tuesday/Thursday, September 1 – 29, from 5:40 – 6:40 p.m. Another class is offered on Monday/Wednesday, Sept. 2 – 30 at the same time. The cost for either class is $26.
Indoor Cycling: Participants ride stationery bikes at varying levels of intensity visualizing flat roads, and hills to valleys. It is great for burning calories and promoting cardiovascular fitness. The class meets each Friday, September 4 – October 9, from 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. There is also a Saturday class, September 5 – October 10, from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. The cost for either class is $23.
Core Strength and Conditioning: Develop your body uniformly and correct posture while toning muscles and gaining flexibility in this class similar to Pilates. The class meets each Friday, September 4 – October 23, from 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. The cost is $26.
Beginning Sewing: Learn the basics of sewing machine use while creating a garment. Class topics include machine set up, take down, pattern selection and reading, selecting fabrics,, laying and cutting out patterns and pattern creation. The class meets each Tuesday, September 8 – October 6 from 6 – 9 p.m. The cost is $38.
Crocheting for Beginners: Learn to crochet using worsted weight yarn to create items to wear or decorate your home. Students will learn how to read patterns and crochet using chain, single and double crochet stitches. The class meets each Tuesday/Thursday, Sept. 8 – 17, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. The cost is $26.
Organic Gardening: Learn how to grow nutritious foods without the cost of expensive fertilizers and harmful pesticides. Topics include soil preparation, chemical vs. organic pesticides, mulching, planting, layout and more. The class meets each Tuesday/Thursday, September 8 – 24, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. The cost is $46.
Piano: this group piano class is for beginners who have little or no piano experience. Class focuses on keyboard, improvisation and note reading. The class for 5 – 12year olds meets each Saturday, Sept. 5 – October 10, from 1 – 2 p.m. The class for 13 years to adult meets each Tuesday, September 8 – October 13, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. The cost for either class is $89.
