San Saba Ladies Golf Association Does It Again!
Thursday, September 10, 2009 • Posted September 10, 2009

San Saba has always been blessed with a lot of great things, from beautiful landscape, and an abundant amount of running water, to friendly folks eager to lend a hand, and one of the finest “small town” golf courses in the Country.

This golf course has a reputation for being one of the most challenging, and best golf courses anywhere in the State. I know that when I go places, and tell people where I am from, they always know about the course.

As you look around the course you see a lot of nice amenities, a great covered pavilion with some of the nicest tables you will find. When you are on the course, and you feel tired you can find nice benches to sit on. If you need to clean your golf ball, every hole has a ball washer. Needing a place to figure your score, or have a meeting? How about an upstairs room, with tables and chairs, and a full kitchen. These are just a few of the things, that over the years have been donated to this course by a remarkable group of ladies, and although they are getting smaller in number, they are larger than ever in what they bring, and give to this place.

I remember when I first arrived in 2002 and the greens were in horrible condition, I was approached by one of the Ladies and was asked how were the greens going to get back in shape? After some discussion on my plan, I said it sure would be nice to have a nursery green to take pieces off of if we ever needed to. Three days later I was given the funds by the Ladies Golf Association to build that nursery, and it has been used every year.

I am always amazed at how such a small group can produce so much for this place. This year the Ladies have donated a water fountain for the 18th hole, it has added some great aesthetics to our signature finishing hole, and some soothing water sounds to calm you down after you hole your putt for a triple bogey. I know that they are just as proud about the fountain as we are, and if you get a chance please stop by and take a look at it.

As the golf pro here, I have the pleasure to work closely with this remarkable group, and I have gotten to know each one of them, and trust me there have been many occasions that they have given me encouragement and a hug when I needed it most. From all of the golfing community, and all of the visitors to our fine course, I would like to say thank you for all of the wonderful things that you have done over the years.
