This past week, the Dillo baseballers added a little baseball into spring break with the JV Dillos playing Bangs here on Friday and the Varsity Dillos playing at Coleman on Thursday and here on Friday vs. Bangs.
On Thursday, the Varsity went to Coleman for 4:00 p.m. match-up with the Bluecats. We started off good and stayed steady through out the game beating Coleman 13-0 in the 6th inning due to the 10-run rule. Robert Pulatie pitched another great game with six complete innings, facing 23 batters, giving up three hits, 0 runs, 0 earned runs, striking out seven, and walking two. Pulatie is 2-0 in district with a 1.50 era.
Offensively, the Dillos had 13 runs with 8 hits,11 rbis, 8 walks, and 4 strike outs. John Henry and Casey Phillips lead the Dillo offense with 3 hits and 2 hits respectively.John and Casey both had doubles along with Pulatie and Travis Hawkins. Defensively, we played well; we had one error, and made several good defensive plays, including double plays with Phillips and Derek Sears. This put us at 4-0 in district and 12-4 for the year.
On Good Friday, in front of the biggest crowd we have had since I have been here, we played Bangs. We hope you all come back because we did not do as well as we would have liked. Blake Lewis pitched 5&2/3 innings facing 26 batters, allowing 3 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned runs, striking out 10 and walking 5. John Henry threw 1&1/3 innings, facing 4 batters, allowing 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 earned runs, striking out 2, and walking one. It was Blake's first loss in district; his record is 2&1 with an era of 2.18.
Offensively, Bangs’ Chris Stone kept us off balance and guessing the entire game. We had 3 hits 1 walk and struck out 9 times. Defensively, we had an off night as well and they took advantage, beating us 5-0. We are now 4-1 in district and 12-5 for the year and we have our WAKE UP CALL behind us.
The JV played a great 5 innings vs Bangs JV here this past Friday. It was a 1-1 game going into the bottom of the 6th when it got away from us and we got beat 10-1. Many good plays were made by these young men and they are getting better each time we play.
This week, the Varsity plays at Bangs at 6:00 on Tuesday. The Varsity and JV play here on Friday vs.Grape Creek in what should be a battle between the two top teams in district.
Please come out and support these kids if you can. We really appreciate all the support.
