The 25th San Saba Invitational Tennis Tournament was held on March 19th and 20th. Teams from Mason, Llano, Brady, Florence and San Saba competed in the tournament. Mason won the team championship with 130 points, San Saba and Llano tied for second with 80 points, followed by Florence with 76 points, and Brady with 72 points. I think we could have competed with Mason for first place if we had all our players playing. We had 9 players not playing because of spring break, so we were short in boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles.

Tayler Hibler won the girls singles championship by defeating teammate Sophia Flores in the finals 6-2, 6-1. Casey Phillips came in second place in boys singles. Casey was unable to play the finals as he had to leave for a baseball game. Chase Key won 3rd place in boys singles. Ryan Parks and Reid Casco won 3rd place in boys doubles. Playing in the tournament for San Saba were Tayler Hibler, Sophia Flores, Casey Phillips, Chase Key, Ryan Parks, Reid Casco, and Derek Sears.

San Saba’s varsity and junior varsity will next play in the Mason Tournament on March 27,28, and 29. On March 31 and April 1 the tennis team will play in the District 6-AA Tournament at Rose Park in Abilene.
