Last week I received a call from a local pastor and he asked me what I was doing. I told him I was doing the same thing he does every Sunday morning, feeding sheep.

While we were feeding that day I began to notice something. A large majority of the sheep that came up to get the feed were looking good. I also noticed in every bunch of sheep that we fed there were some not doing any good at all and they will probably die soon. They have been eating things that are not good for them. About this time of year, we have a small poisonous weed that comes up and it is so green and pretty. But if they start eating it, they will not stop until they are dead. It leads to a slow and agonizing death.

Seeing those sheep reminds me of something we all face in life. The world has many beautiful things to offer that look so good and pleasing and seem to do us no momentary harm. For example, the forbidden fruit that Adam and Eve ate and the things Satan offered Jesus Christ (Genesis 3:6, Matthew 4:1-11). If we just indulge in those things and not the things of God we will surely experience spiritual death, eternal separation from God, (Revelation 20:14 & 21:8). The antidote: Seek God (Hebrews 10:22 & James 4:8). See you in church next Sunday.
