Late Saturday afternoon a cloud appeared and after much lightening and thunder 1/10 of rain fell, only making it more humid.

Sunday afternoon a light shower fell between Lampasas and Bend, but nothing at Bend.

The school bus will be coming out to Bend to pick up children for school, so please everyone stop when you see a bus loading or unloading their passengers. This applies to buses anywhere in the county.

A surprise birthday party was held for Doug Messer at his home in Lampasas last week. Twenty-one guests were there to help him celebrate the big 40.

Lola Morris received a visit from Dorothy Morris of Round Rock and her son David from Taylor. David is a teacher and this was the last free weekend before his duties at school started Monday to drive his mother out for a visit. Dorothy and David visited the Bend cemetery before returning home.

Phil B and Winnie Lou McCoury will have an empty space in their home now that granddaughter Rebecca Dowdy has returned home to enroll in school.

We still have some on the ailing list and need to be kept in your prayers. Rufus Cobern is still making a slow recovery. Glenda Scroggins will soon be going in for surgery. John Hicks of Alvarado had a stint put in last week and reported to be doing just fine. Barbara Jones was in to see the doctor at Lampasas last week, but she is still having problems and will be seeing another doctor this week for the pain in her leg. She was given a shot in her leg for the pain, but it just lasted for a couple of days and the pain has returned. Jane Clark will soon be going in to have a growth on the bottom of her foot removed. LaNell Daniels has been suffering some very sever headaches this past week. Lucille Underwood will be going in for surgery this week in Austin. Glad to report that Vernon Lindsey’s health is better. In fact, well enough that he and Loretta are thinking about going to Ohio.

It was reported that the son of CarrieWayne Keeney, Tracy, Leah Keeney and children of Rockdale have recently moved to Alvarado.

Happy birthday greetings go out to Debbie Herd who will celebrate a birthday August 29, to Eric Hernandez, Rufus Cobern and Trenton Hamrick who will celebrate a birthday August 30, to Nancy Hicks who will celebrate on August 31, to Pennye Pierce who will celebrate a birthday September 1 and Carl Adams whose birthday is September 3.
