Saturday the Cherokee Church of Christ had their annual Back To School Bash. They had a Star Wars theme this year. Many children from the community came and had a good time. Robert Baugh was in charge and did a good job pulling things together for the children.

Payton Suggs had to go home after spending the week with grandma and grandpa. While with them he got to go to Sea World, fishing at Colorado State Park, to visit Margie Clark in the hospital in Fredericksburg. He also got to see his uncle Jeremy and aunt Sheila while in Fredericksburg. He also enjoyed ice cream from Sue’s store. His sister Sydnie was sent home from LSU with the swine flu. There were around 50 sent home that day and might have been more after that.

Kayla Davis and Anhelica Trinidad are now at Lubbock Christian University. Kacey Dobbs is at Abilene Christian University and sporting an engagement ring! Michael Crawford is at Freed Hardeman University in Tennessee. Judy Burdine will start at TSTC in Brownwood on Monday. There are many more of our “kids” off to college this week.

Michael Murray’s step mom passed away last Sunday morning in Midland.

Doug and Cyndi Suggs and Karen and Perry Covington left for a workshop in Tennessee. They will be gone about nine days. It is in the Smoky Mountains area.

Dale and DiAnne Scott spent a couple of nights in Galveston at the San Louis Hotel then on to White Castle, Louisiana for a couple more nights. While

they stayed in Lousiana they stayed at the Nottaway Plantation. It is the largest plantation house to survive the war. It was built by John Hampton Randolph.

Joseph Scott and Cindy Lawhon spent several days at South Padre Island with

Jesse Hernandez. Jesse is home on leave.

Windy and Shirley Fleming always spend the summers at their home in Maine. Windy reported that it has been the wettest summer on record. Also the 8th coolest. I bet they are glad they didn’t spend the summer in Cherokee. They will be home in late September. Maybe they will bring the rain with them.

Each Monday morning grandparents, parents and friends will be praying at the Cherokee School Flag Pole. It will start at 8:00 a.m. Please come and pray for our school, the students and the teachers. Everyone is invited.

If you have news, send it to sroad@centex.net or drop it off at the grocery store. Please pray for rain and for our country!
