The 2009-2010 SSHS Varsity Cheerleaders attended the Universal Cheer Association (UCA) Camp at Great Wolf Lodge and Resort in Grapevine, Texas on August 10-13. The group competed with about 400 other girls from all over the state. They worked very hard prior to camp in order to compete with a home dance routine. All the hard work paid off when they were named the 2009 UCA Dance Champions. Throughout the camp they learned cheers, chants, an extreme dance routine and a hip hop routine. Each of these was evaluated and ribbons were given according to the quality of the performance. The girls received all superior ribbons in all evaluations. They also received a Superior trophy and were invited as a squad to attend the Capital One Bowl. On the last day of camp the girls competed in the UCA Camp Championships in which all the squads compete against each other with a Cheer and Dance. The girls took home the 2009 Camp Champion trophy for their cheer. The girls also competed individually. Kayla Ellis made it to the semi-finals in the Jump Off and Nicole Sears and Tarah Crosby were both named to the All-American Team. Sponsor, Elizabeth Chambers, said of the group, “They did an amazing job! The girls worked almost too hard. We were in the middle of this wonderful resort with an indoor and outdoor waterpark but they stayed focused on what we went there to accomplish. I am proud of these girls and proud of the way they represented our school and community.” Pictured: back row: Karlee Cromer, Ashley Pulatie, Nina Paredez, Tarah Crosby, Courtney Pryor and Joannah Crosby.
