The Unknown Inheritance
Thursday, August 20, 2009 • Posted August 20, 2009

My cousins and I recently received a letter from the state saying we were the heirs of some land from my great-grandfather. It joined some land that he owned but we did not know that he also owned the adjacent property. The State checked it out and we were the rightful owners.

That incident reminded me of something in the Bible. It talks a good deal about inheritances and they can be obtained or lost. To be entitled to or be qualified for it we must become part of the family of God. We must be “Born Again” as Jesus told a great religious leader, (John 3:1-3).

When we turn from ourselves or anything other than Christ and call upon Jesus Christ to be our Savior, we receive a new birth or spiritual birth, (John 1:12&13, 1 Peter 1:3&4). Everyone that chooses to accept Christ automatically has a special inheritance reserved in Heaven, (Ephesians 1:11, Colossians 1:12-14 & 3:24, Hebrews 9:14&15).

If we reject Christ or ignore Him we have no inheritance in heaven, (Ephesians 5:5). Our inheritance can not be stolen or deteriorate, (Luke 12:33). Maybe we should make sure we have accepted Christ so we will have an inheritance.

When we accept Christ our names are written in a special book in heaven called the, “book of life” or “the Lamb’s book of life” (Revelation 3:5, 20:15, 21:27).

See you in Church next Sunday.
