Military Warriors Support Foundation joins with City of San Saba to honor area wounded soldiers

The City of San Saba and The Military Warrior Support Foundation (MWSF) have joined forces with local San Saba businesses, land owners and organizations to honor wounded soldiers from around the state. After an informative dinner presentation held June 30th at the Civic Center, a planning committee of interested members of the San Saba community was formed to coordinate activities with MWSF. Long time San Saba residents Jimmy Jones, Michele Whitley, Carolyn McCoury, Jacob Hardman and Cyndy Hawkins are just a few of the members of this dedicated committee.

According to retired 3 Star General, Leroy Sisco, Chief Executive Officer of The Military Warriors Support Foundation, “The difficulties encountered by our returning wounded heroes is often overlooked or misunderstood. The Military Warrior Support Foundation was formed to help address the many challenges our soldiers experience after being injured in service to our country. The wounded hero is quickly challenged after returning home to provide for their families and overcome their injuries. Their divorce rate exceeds 90%.”

Through various forms of outreach MWSF helps the wounded heroes return to a normal life. The Foundation provides academic scholarships, work force retraining and job placement assistance. Recreation opportunities are provided through hunting and fishing programs, golf tournaments and music. Clay Walker, and Tim McGraw well known country and western singers are ardent supporters of MWSF.

San Saba Mayor Ken Jordon states “The MWSF provides an excellent opportunity for us to demonstrate our respect and gratitude for these heroes and their families. I would encourage every interested individual and local organization to step forward and help with this effort.”

One local business has already donated ten educational scholarships to the MWSF for distribution to the soldiers.

iStudySmart.com a 24 year old publishing company of college test preparation materials eagerly joined with the MWSF in providing these scholarships. General Sisco acknowledged “this form of support for our heroes is essential to helping them get off to a good start, and iStudySmart.com is doing a great service by becoming involved”.

Hill Country Bible Church of San Saba in conjunction with their annual Sunday Fun Day is providing a special invitation to area heroes, their families and members of MWSF to take part in the family friendly activities the church will be providing. Their event is scheduled for August 23rd, 12:30 PM – 5:00 PM at Mill Pond Park. Make plans to come out and honor the heroes as well as enjoy the activities and free food being provided.

Other individuals in the community are beginning to show their support by providing hunting and fishing opportunities through donating the use of their land and facilities. The planning committee is actively seeking all interested individuals, landowners and organizations in San Saba and surrounding counties who feel they can provide an opportunity to help these heroes. These opportunities could be as simple as a single afternoon of fishing, or a multi day dove or deer hunt. They may also include opening your home to mentoring a family as it struggles with the difficulties the injuries have introduced to their lives.

The desire is to organize and schedule these activities as quickly as possible to take advantage of the upcoming dove and deer seasons. A golf tournament is already in the works for next spring, as is scheduling for hog and squirrel hunts. The hope is to provide the heroes a chance to return to a normal life, be honored for their service, and encouraged.
