4-H Clubs recruiting new members for Fall
Thursday, August 13, 2009 • Posted August 13, 2009

Summer is almost gone and the kids are getting ready to go back in school. The coming of the new school year also means the coming of the new 4H year.

The 4-H program in San Saba County is beginning for the 2010 year. We have clubs that meet in San Saba, Cherokee, and Richland Springs. The clubs have a regular scheduled meeting monthly from September through May. The program is open to all youth from third grade through 12th grade. There is no cost associated with membership in the program other than the costs that might be associated with an individual project.

4-H members attend the monthly meeting and choose & do 4H projects that they are interested in. Projects range from the traditional livestock, horse, to cooking, and clothing, to wildlife,VetScience and photography. Regardless of the interests of a youth member, there is a project made to fit anyone. Individual 4-H clubs are guided by adults club managers, but actually are run by the youth members who are elected as officers for the club. Meetings normally consist of a business meeting, an educational program of interest to the members and a recreation time. To join a 4-H club in your area call the San Saba Co. Extension Office at 372-3851 or 372-5416.
