The Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD held a regular meeting in the Central Administration Office on August 10th at 6 p.m. President Darrin Barker called the meeting to order, announced a quorum present and gave the invocation. Everyone joined for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.
Recognition was given to High School Principal Stewart and the students he supervised this summer.
Communications from Superintendent Leigh Ann Glaze included the following:
a. Set the September school board meeting date for September 14th, 6 p.m.
b. Final budget meeting - August 26th, noon.
c. Looked over letter to staff and in-service schedule.
d. New teacher orientation and luncheon.
e. Board members need to sign up for reserve seats to games.
f. Gave information regarding a Communications grant a service center with other districts.
g. SSISD will be getting Wireless Broad Band set up around January, 2010.
h. Tuesday August 11th meeting in Austin for the Grant allocation information.
i. Information regarding changes in Bus Routes.
The following consent agenda was approved:
1. Regular meeting and Executive session minutes from June 8, 2009; Budget workshops and 8/4 Budget Adoption and Tax Rate hearing.
2. Amend 2008-2009 budget.
3. Allow and pay bills.
4. Financial Report.
5. Designated Texas Cooperative Extension Agents, Carolyn McDowell and Neal Alexander adjunct faculty members.
Assistant Superintendent Ashley Stewart gave reports for: Retests; Accountability rating and CSCOPE.
Campus Reports by Principals were given. Elementary Principal Shackelford has been getting ready for the start of school and at the present time there is 278 students, plus 20 Head Start Students.
Middle School Principal Bohensky reported 208 students at the present time. On Monday, August 10th, Sandy Henderson presented a Discipline Management plan that was well attended by teachers. Bohensky is getting ready for school to start.
High School Principal Stewart reported that football and band members have started practicing and first scrimmage will be August 15th at Junction, leaving San Saba at 7 a.m. The cheerleaders are in Cheerleading Camp this week at Grapevine. Enough money has been collected by students to install a 52 inch TV in the cafeteria. At the present time the high school will have 206 students.
Superintendent Glaze gave the report for Athletic Director Jeff Pannell. The 2 a-day football practices are going very well. There are 49 athletes in the Junior and Varsity football program this year and six student trainers. The first scrimmage will be on August 15th at Junction. Pannell has made arrangements for people to ask questions and get information during coffees with him. The first “coffee with coach” will be August 14th, 6:30 a.m. at the Alamo Pecan & Coffee Co., 601 E. Wallace St. There was a discussion about transporting the tunnel to out of town games.
After discussion of some changes, the Board approved the Local Policy DEC (LOCAL) Leaves and Absences.
Assistant Superintendent Stewart gave an extensive review of the Student Handbook that will be read by each teacher to their students the first day of school.
The Board approved an application for PK tuition rate be sent to the Commissioner, and an attorney consultation agreement with Schwartz and Eichelbaum.
There was discussion regarding a poling place for early elections.
President Barker adjourned the meeting with no Executive Session.
