Elm Grove Echoes

We got some rain last week and, on the surface, everything looks pretty and green. It must still be dry, though, I noticed the burn ban is still in effect.

The weather was just perfect for the Elm Grove Rodeo last weekend. There were large crowds all three nights and Saturday was as usual, standing room only. It always amazes me to see this many people out for the rodeo.

The contestants came from far and near. We always wonder how they heard about the Elm Grove rodeo. It is interesting to see the children and grandchildren of the contestants from years gone by. A lot of folks made the comment that they come just to see everyone that they haven’t seen since the last time they were at the rodeo.

The bucking horses and the bulls all performed really well. The rodeo association owns the horses, but local owners donate the use of the bulls. The price of admission is still one dollar for adults and 50 cents for children, just like it was when the rodeo began all those years ago. Wayne Gossett and all his helpers did a booming business at the hamburger stand. The Weatherman family and the Norris family had the drink stand well in hand. The Stacy Green crew did a good job on the barbecue. We want to extend a big Thank You to anyone who helped in any way to put on the rodeo and we will be looking for you next year on August 5, 6, & 7.

Remember the community meeting this Saturday night at 7:30 PM. We will have an ice cream supper and if you would like to bring a freezer of ice cream, we would appreciate it. Hostesses are Bonnie Evans, Kitty Cummings and Wilma Lee.

There will not be a community meeting in September due to the rodeo appreciation supper. In October we will have the gospel singing for the community meeting. Hope to see you there.
