Last week Cyndi and I took a couple of days off and went camping with the Davis family. We didn’t go far—to Inks Lake. That is a beautiful state park with many activities and things to do.

Part of our time was spent at a place called Devil’s Hole. Maybe you are asking what a preacher would do at Devil’s Hole. Refreshing in the water (swimming). It was hot and being in the water certainly felt good to my scorching body.

While there we saw some people do some incredible things. There were people who would actually climb on the rocks and jump off into the water. Some of them jumped from the lower part of the rocks and some would go to the highest point. I know what you are thinking so, no, I did not jump off the rocks. I jump off bicycles, but not rocks!

A few of the people would go to jump and when they looked down thought long and hard about it. Some were very wise and did not jump. I’m sure that some would think they were cowards but I personally believe that they were pretty intelligent.

There is a time, however, that those who are cowards may be condemned for all of eternity. John is on the island of Patmos and had a vision. At the end of the book of Revelation we read, “But the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (21:8)

This passage of scripture comes after telling the people of a better place (Heaven) for those who overcome. Heaven is a place of no crying, nor pain nor any other problem that we face on the earth. And yet, if we are cowardly in our faith, this is not the place prepared for us. God expects us to boldly speak up for Him in every situation. We are to confess Him in all of our activities. (Col. 3:17)

Are you confessing Jesus or behaving cowardly when you should be standing for Him?
