Promises and more promise of rain. This week they tell us we might get some rain, but it sure doesn’t look like it will be coming down far enough south to help us. Places north of us thank goodness is getting rain, and sure would be nice if we say the same.
Sunday had an all time high temperature with 106 degrees at 3:00 p.m. Just too darn hot for anyone including animals. The fish might be the only thing that stays fairly cool.
Speaking of fish, a great fish tale was reported Sunday afternoon. It seems Howard and Carol Rockafellow just returned from Alaska with 250 pounds of fish that they caught on a four day fishing trip to Ketchikan. They fished off of Dall Island and each day caught their limit of fish. Howard reported that they caught salmon, halibut, sea bass and yellow eye. They were just limited to catching one yellow eye each day, but the one that they did catch in one day weighted 64 pounds. They flew there and back with all 250 pounds of filleted fish, shipped in five boxes, which according to Howard is now packaged and in their deep freeze. On their return trip they left at 3:30 a.m. and arrived in Austin at 6:30 p.m. Friday night. Carol works for an airline so that helps on the cost of shipping the fish back on the plane.
That is sure going to be a lot of fish to eat.
Last week Louise Barefoot and son Frank Wakeman of Lampasas was out to the Bend. They had been out to the cemetery and before returning to Lampasas they stopped by for a short visit with Lola Morris.
Lola has been Bush Sewing and making different items for the Henniger which will be held next month.
It was learned Sunday that Vernon Lindsey was put in the Lampasas hospital suffering from some sort of a lung problem. The family needs to be kept in your prayers.
The painters who have been busy painting and patching the walls of the Bend Community Center were finishing up Monday. It will be good to have a nice new look inside the center for the first meeting in September.
