San Saba County Commissioners vote to reinstate Burn Ban
Thursday, July 30, 2009 • Posted July 30, 2009

The San Saba County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday, July 27th at 9 a.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers. County Judge Byron Theodosis called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.

Neal Alexander, San Saba County Extension Agent Agriculture, gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

Pat Pool, Jackie Brister and Neal Alexander were in attendance from the San Saba County Soil & Water Conservation District. Pat Pool explained that the 25 flood prevention structures that were installed 50 years ago are in need of repairs.

They applied for the state to take over the costly expense. Although the state will not take over the cost, funds of $519,590 with the State financing 90% is available. The Commissioners agreed that financing 10% was affordable and necessary.

Monette Burke, of Midland, was in attendance and was given information regarding the Indigent Health Care Program.

Kevin Shahan distributed the San Saba County Audit ending September 2008. Shahan went over the report including commending the commissioners for choosing to do the work for FEMA projects instead of hiring the work done, saving the county substantial amounts.

Former County Judge Barker came to the meeting for a short time.

The Commissioners approved the following:

1. A San Saba County Census be taken in 2010.

2. The payment of bills.

3. An Indigent Health Care Program policy concerning San Saba County Jail inmates.

Two items were tabled after discussion.

Attorney David Williams has 10 copies of the proposed revision to San Saba County Commissioner Precinct Lines. The map will be available for the citizens of San Saba County for review at the County Judge’s Chambers; San Saba News; and locations in Cherokee and Richland Springs.

After a discussion the Burn Ban was enacted with four yes votes and one no vote. The next Commissioners’ Court will be Monday, August 10th at 9 a.m.

Attending the meeting were: County Judge Byron Theodosis; County Treasurer Gayla Hawkins; County Clerk Kim Wells; Administrative Assistant Cathi Miles; Commissioners Roger McGehee, Kenley Kroll, Ricky Lusty, Otis Judkins; Chief Deputy Bill Price; County Coordinator Marsha Hardy; County Sheriff Allen Brown; Judge Les Dawson; Kevin Shahan, Monette Burke and San Saba News & Star Reporter Alice Smith.
