The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met June 4, 2009 for the monthly business meeting. As the President, Anita Miles, called the meeting to order, to her surprise, the members burst into song, “Happy Birthday”! Anita’s birthday is June 7th. What a delightful way to start the day for Anita.

The meeting was then opened with prayer by Hattie Rogers. The Secretary, Hattie Rogers, read the minutes and they were approved as read. Sandee Hartley, in the absence of the Treasurer, Bobbie Churchill, gave the financial report.

The president gave a report from the electrician that confirmed that the light fixture in the ladies restroom is damaged and needs to be replaced. The ladies voted unanimously to purchase a new fixture. The president appointed Sandy Hartley to this committee.

Sandee Hartley, the Four Ball Chair, announced that Traveling Four Ball will be at Hidden Falls on June 16, 2009.

The meeting adjourned for play day with the Chair for June, Jo Anne Hardy, calling for a new game called the Fantastic Nines. Nine points were awarded on each hole. If you won the hole you received five points, second three points, and third one point. There were three members on each team. In case of ties the nine points were awarded in like manner. Dorothy Sterner remarked this was her favorite game as you get something on every hole! Good point! And it proved to be a fun game!

First Place went to Sandee Hartley, who also scored the Low Gross for the day, Second to Anita Miles, and Third to Jo Ann Snow, who also tied with Dorothy Sterner for Low Net for the day. Hattie Rogers, Dorothy Sterner, and Jo Anne Hardy were hot on their heels!

Anita Miles considered it a happy birthday as she chipped in for the third week in a row, could be a record, but it was a four way tie this week as Jo Anne Hardy, Sandee Hartley, and Dorothy Sterner also chipped in!

Keith Harris, the club pro, who keeps the handicaps for the ladies brought some stats for the last year and it showed that Jo Ann Snow has been the most improved player! Good for Jo Ann! We were aware of this as she continues dominating Low Net each week.

Summer is in full swing and the golf course is at it’s best so why don’t you consider taking lessons and joining in on a sport for all ages! You are welcome to the San Saba River Golf Course and the Ladies Association would also welcome you as a new member. There are a few new ladies playing and we would love to have you in our organization where we just play golf and have fun and keep on “swinging.”
