Joyce Brooks Leaves 'em Laughing, Lisa Wingate Coming Soon
Thursday, June 4, 2009 • Posted June 4, 2009

Author and travel guru, Joyce Brooks, made a guest appearance on May 18 at the Rylander Public Library. Joyce, who traveled to seven continents by the time she was 70, amused the crowd as she described many of the humorous experiences she had while escorting thousands of tourists to exotic locations all over the world.

Carol Littlefield coordinated the event which was sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Carol said “it was just great and very entertaining.” Carol noted that Joyce’s two books, Around the World in the Middle Seat and Seven before Seventy, are available at the library. Elsie Millican enthusiastically reported that the event was “most enjoyable. She told such clever stories that were fun about her travels and life in general. She kept you laughing through it all.”

About 25 people attended the event. If you missed it, we’ve got good news for you! First, autographed copies of Joyce’s books are available from her web site at www.joycebrookstravel.com and, second, the Friends of the Library will sponsor another event this Fall.

Lisa Wingate, a popular inspirational speaker and best-selling author, will make a guest appearance at the Library in November. Lisa’s newest book, Tending Roses, received dozens of five-star reviews, sold out ten printings for New York publisher, Penguin Putnam and went on to become a national bestselling book. Lisa summarized her philosophy of life by noting that “So many of today’s sound bites are sensational, and awful and when you take in all of those things, it is easy to lose faith in the world and in the goodness of people. I want to create books that are entertaining, but also good for the soul—that don’t leave readers feeling sad or disappointed, or wishing they hadn’t read the book at all. I think we are all called to add something good to the world, to inspire and uplift, to add our colors to the canvas. “

Lisa sounds like a lady who’d be nice to spend an afternoon with. Check out her web site at www.lisawingate.com and make plans to attend her book signing at the Library in November.
