John 1-5 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God; the same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him and without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not."

I believe the above scriptures are the greatest message in your Bible and I hope to do three things by using them as a text for what follows: (1) To show who Christ is; (2) To show what Christ is; and (3) To show why Christ is.

The first is rather easy and all should have an answer to it. Christ was in the beginning, perhaps even before the heavens and earth was made and He helped create and make all things. He once said, if you have seen Me you have seen the Father. That has to mean He was the same as God. He was born of a woman, but fathered by God. Then He had a body of flesh and blood from the woman just as you and I have; but he had a Spirit from His Father God, which made Him above other men.

Now the #2 is a little harder to show. But we see the answer in the very first verse of our text. He was the Word of God. He became the Word of God and was given everything God is and all God stands for. Of course we know the Word of God is absolutely perfect, and beyond the ability of man to copy.

That is the "What" Christ is. So this should show us the "Who" and the "What" Christ is and leads us up to the most important, the "Why" Christ is. In the beginning God made everything that exists by His perfect Word, (Christ), as the pattern. He looked at it and said, "it is good, it is very good". So God made man and created them male and female. They are the crowning glory of all His creations; but He was wise enough to know there would be temptations and trouble for them on earth, and they would need a pattern to show how He wanted them to live in their flesh and blood life. So that is why He sent His only begotten Son to be a perfect pattern for all men to live by. That becomes the (Why) Christ is.

Just a few random thoughts: Christ so satisfied God to be a perfect pattern for all to know how to live this earthly life; it is complete and no need for another. That is why Christ is called the only begotten Son of God. There will never be another because there can be none better.
