This is the name of new show that has been advertised on television. Do you remember the days when you were at school and there was an argument about whose dad was the best? Someone might say, “My dad is smarter than your dad.” And the comeback would be, “No he’s not! My dad is smarter than yours.” Or perhaps it was, “My dad is stronger than yours.” At this point the debate was raging into full swing.

When we are children and love our father, we see him as an invincible person. He can do things that we could never imagine possible – at that young age. And of course, many of these things he could not do as well as we imagined. But he was our hero. He was the ideal we wanted to follow after. So, when someone said that their dad was better than ours, we would be quick to say how much better ours was.

Aren’t the days of childhood fun? As we grow older we realize our dad – parents – are not immune to problems. They may be hidden from us as we are growing older but we come to understand the pedestal we put them on is unreal. Every father or mother has good points and they have points that should not be emulated.

Our heavenly Father is one that is better than any mortal dad. He is sympathetic to our needs. He knows when we are hurting and knows the source of our problems. We know what some of our problems are but God knows each one and why. He reads the heart of each one of us and knows whether or not we are “pure in heart”, Matthew 5:8. He knows the motives as to why we do certain things.

David has been described as the man after God’s own heart. David sought after God and only wanted to do His will. I really don’t believe David ever gave much thought to the fact that he would sin. He just pleased God. And then one day his heart changed and he was tempted and fell into the temptation. God was sad. Eventually, David’s sin was pointed out to him. He confessed that sin and God was quick to forgive him. David had consequences to live with, however, just as we do.

My Heavenly Father is better than any other father. Is He your Father today?
