The area around the Bend received a half inch of rain Saturday and cooler weather, which was nice. The rain came at a good time as it was beginning to get dry once again.

Casey Lobstein and Arrell Hopper of Abilene were in this past week visiting Lola Morris and Elo Henniger in Lampasas. Some other members of the late Elda Barnett of Coleman were in also getting in some fishing and visiting relatives. It was reported they were catching some nice size fish.

Rufus Cobern and Tommye were in Temple last Wednesday getting the results of some test that had been run earlier and he received a good report.

Over the weekend a birthday celebration was held for Kerry Marley and his sister, Tanya and her daughter, Ashley Chalfant of Cedar Park was there to help celebrate the event.

Friday Jerome and Shirley Meischen attended the graduation of their granddaugher, Quincee Gideon from A & M. She graduated with honors and you can just bet there are two very proud grandparents.

Congratulations go out to Lillie Belle Marley who recently celebrated her 90-year birthday with her daughter, Nan Marley. The two ladies celebrated the birthday by an overnight visit to Kingsland where they stayed at the Antlers. Belle reported that it was nice and quiet there. Sorry to report that she suffered a fall this past week at her home. She reported that a rib may be broken or badly bruised. It is very painful but thank goodness nothing else seemed to be wrong.

A bridal shower was held Saturday in the newly finished Leaning Bluff Lodge at Barefoot Camp and RV Park. The shower was for Elizabeth Adams and Joe Tamez, Jr.

Elizabeth is the daughter of Carl Adams and Dr. Marilyn Brister and the granddaughter of Jackie and Charlene Brister. Many useful gifts were received and everyone enjoyed a variety of sandwiches, dips, fruits, nuts, punches and cake. The guests were escorted through the newly finished lodge, which by the way is a very beautiful place. Old barn wood cabinets and a unique ceiling of old rusted tin with vaulted ceilings and a beautiful mounted Elk head, which Jackie had taken in one of his hunting trips. There are four big bedrooms each with a bath and a half bath in the hall way. The bedrooms are not furnished yet, but ready and waiting for the arrival of the furniture.

Barbara Jones reported that she attended the birthday celebration for Lesa Preece Saturday.

Bill and Jo Price celebrated Bill’s birthday by eating Mexican food at Alfredo’s Saturday night.

They received word that they have a new great grandson born May 13. He weighed in at 7 pounds and seven ounces and was 20 inches long, his name is Hunter Lucas. His mother is Jessica Price Lucas. Mother and baby are fine.

Saturday night a dance was held at the Leaning Bluff Lodge to celebrate Handy Andy Gibson’s birthday. The lodge was a very busy place Saturday. What with the shower in the afternoon and then a dance that night.

Jane Clark reported that she went to Lubbock Thursday, spent the night with Boyd Clark and family, continued on to Portales, New Mexico. Friday she along with Elsa Dean Shirley and her son, Kenneth; Kasandra Clark; her husband to be, Troy; and his son, Kaxton; Bobby; Kit; and Jesse Clark had dinner together.

Saturday they attended the graduation of Kasandra from college and afterward went to Kasandra’s home for a dinner. Sunday they attended church and in the afternoon attended the bridal shower for Kasandra and Troy.

Jane spent Sunday night in Lubbock at the home of Boyd and early Monday started back to Bend. Whew! It was a busy five days.

Happy birthday greetings go out to Jade Hickey whose birthday is May 22, to Jim Hicks who will celebrate a birthday May 23, to Robert Price who will celebrate a birthday May 24, Melissa Clark whose birthday is May 25, to Allison Preece, Tracy Keeney and Spring Price who will celebrate a birthday May 26 and to Halden Tower whose birthday is May 27.
