Gifted and Talented class monitor the San Saba River at Risien Park

On May 5th, the 8th grade Gifted and Talented class from San Saba Middle School visited Risien Park to conduct their monthly tests of the San Saba River for LCRA as part of the Colorado River Watch Network volunteer program.

The participants included Karlee Cromer, Joannah Crosby, Jeffrey Hoyt, Kayla Kutin, Lane Schultz, Jared Steger, Heather Wilcox, and their teacher, Judy McCoy. Robin Berry, the CRWN volunteer coordinator, accompanied the class to observe their tests, consisting of dissolved oxygen, pH, air and water temperatures, nitrates, alkalinity, specific conductance and turbidity. She also gave a hands-on presentation about macroinvertebrates which the students used to identify what they collected from the river.
