The San Saba Ladies Golf Association met May 14, 2009 for play day with Becky Hardin, in the absence of the Chair for May, Bobbie Churchill, calling for a game of playing the traveling 4-ball point system, one point for boggie, two points for par, three points for birdie, plus your handicap.

First Place went to Jo Anne Hardy, Second Place to Sandee Hartley, and Third Place to Jo Ann Snow. Anita Miles scored the Low Gross for the day and tied with Sandee Hartley for the Low Net for the day. Hattie Rogers chipped in to win the chip in pot. Dorothy Sterner also played and had a great front nine.

Two ladies attended the Lampasas Traveling 4-Ball Tournament on May 12, 2009 and represented San Saba in a fine fashion! Becky Hardin was on the First Place Team and Sandee Hartley was on the Third Place Team. Good ‘swinging’, San Saba Lady Golfers!

The San Saba River Course Advisory Board met May 13, 2009 with the City Manager, Stan Weik, and Tony Guidroz, Director of the Economic Board. Board members present were Buddy Adams, Rick Baskin, Larry Hardin, and Anita Miles. Absent, Jerry Minter.

New rules for the course were discussed and will be: implemented in the near future. Some of the changes will be no pets, to drive a cart you must have a valid driver’s license, handicap flags for those in need and all others will practice the 90 degree rule and 30 feet from the tee boxes and greens, and all players must sign in.

Sponsorship packages with a new concept were presented. There will be three levels of sponsorship:

Eagle Sponsorship: Private Hole Sponsor on the Beautiful New Signs($300 Value), Participating Sponsor of six Tournaments ($500 Value), 20 Rounds of Golf with Cart ($600 Value), Sponsor mentions in tournament radio ads ($200 Value), Sponsor logo in tournament newspaper ads ($1,000 Value), and Sponsor logo on printed tournament materials (posters, banner, etc.) ($500 Value)

Total Eagle Investment Value: $4,900 Sponsor Investment: $1,000 Birdie Sponsorship: Hole Sponsor ($300 Value), Participating Sponsor of Three Tournaments ($350 Value), 10 Rounds of Golf with Cart ($300 Value), Sponsor mentions in tournament radio ads ($1,000 Value), Sponsor logo in tournament newspaper ads ($500 Value), Sponsor logo on printed tournament materials (posters, banner,s etc.) ($250 Value) Total Birdie Investment Value: $2,800

The previous sponsors will be given first choice for an Eagle Sponsorship. With this program in place, the years activities should be covered and will lead the way for the golf course to become self sufficient, the ultimate goal.

The Board further discussed a plan where lifelong members will not be subjected to the same price increases as new members. There will be further discussion on this plan to work out the details.

The San Saba River Advisory Board will be working with the City for the good of the Golf Course. We welcome your input and suggestions. There will be a meeting with the membership at a later date. The new signs and cards and changing of the front nine to the back nine will be implemented very soon. Perhaps this will be the last time the hole numbering is changed! In general, this seems to be the most favorable positioning of the holes.

All members should be encouraging people to take up golf and join us at the beautiful San Saba River Golf Course which is one of the best in Central Texas and they will be surprised how much fun it is to be “swinging!”
