Shelby Hardy ties for 4th at State
Thursday, May 21, 2009 • Posted May 21, 2009

Shelby Hardy was unsuccesful in defending her state title in golf this year. Shelby played her heart out, but seemed to have no luck at all. The Tournament was held at Roy Kizer Golf Course in Austin on Monday and Tuesday, May 11th and 12th. Shelby shot 2 over par 73 on Monday. She played solid golf and she was in the hunt for a medal after the first day. She left 4 putts just inches short for birdies that could have given her the lead. The second day Shelby played solid golf for 8 of her first holes when she hit an err out tee shot on her 9th hole and was stymied up against a tree. She ended up with a triple bogey that was her undoing for a medal. The Second 9 she played solid and carded a 78. Her 151 total would win the state title most of the time, but this years' field was tough and she finished tied for 4th just out of the medals.

Shelby has had a glorious high school career. She has qualified for state all four years and finished in the top 5 all 4 years. She was 5th as a Freshman, 2nd as a Sophomore, State Champ as a Junior, and 4th as a Senior. She holds the all-time scoring record at state for 2-AA Girls. She holds or shares all the San Saba Girls Golf records and the ladies record at the San Saba course. Shelby's team won district in 2006, second at regional's, and third at state.

In 2007, the Girls Team was second in district, and fifth at state. Shelby's 72-68 won her the regional title that year. In 2008, the Girls Team was second in district, regionals, and state. Shelby was district medalist, 3rd at regionals, and the State Champion Medalist shooting 142 in 2 days to set the girls 2-AA record.

In 2009, Shelby's team was District Champs and 3rd at regionals. Shelby led her team with a 67-72-72 3 under par district title (school record and (67) course record). She tied for first at regionals with a 2 day 3 under par performance shooting 32 on the back 9 holes. She has been a joy to coach and be around. She is a great athlete and top student. Shelby will continue her golf at Sam Houston this Fall. She has been a real credit to all of us and her school. Thanks to all of the people who came to watch her play. We all love you Shelby - Coach Schulze!
