A member of the Southwest Texas Annual Conference, Becky Harrell is serving as a missionary in Iquique, Chile, with the Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church as Coordinator of the Methodist Extension to Andean Youth (EMANA), and as Area Financial Executive (AFE) for the Methodist Church of Chile.
EMANA, an institution of the Methodist Church of Chile, was established in 1988 and expanded in 2007 to include social projects of the Northern District of the church from Antofagasta to Iquique.
As AFE, Becky is responsible for the receipt and disbursement of contributions from United Methodist congregations throughout the United States to the various established Advance Projects in Chile.
Becky came to mission service after a circuitous exploration of individual service through the United Methodist Volunteers-In-Mission program, which led her to an opportunity in Iquique, Chile. Becky arrived in Iquique in 2002 as a VIM member serving with the Colegio Ingles Methodist Church of Chile. Her experience as a public library director served well in automating the school library while she also taught conversational English. She became Coordinator of EMANA in 2005.
As a breast cancer survivor Becky is a former Reach-to-Recovery trainer for the American Cancer Society. She has served as a Rotarian (now an Honorary Rotarian) and is a member of the International Ladies Club of Iquique, Chile, which is a social, charitable organization.
A member of Ingleside United Methodist Church, Texas, Becky was commissioned as a GBGM missionary in October 2006. She has one adult son who lives in Texas.
