Missy King to speak at May Event

Missy King, Certified Prevention Specialist with Central Texas Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (CTCADA) will be the first speaker on the May Event program next Wednesday morning, May 13th. She will discuss the effects of prevention on a community as a whole. She has been in the prevention field for 12 years with 3 1/2 years here in the San Saba area. Missy works in 10 rural school districts covering 4 counties facilitating prevention curricula with 3-8th graders.

Missy will be followed by Stacie Lantrip & Melissa Rupe who operate Brownwood’s only Quilt Store, Susie’s Quiltin’ Quarters, with their mother Susie. They will give us a peek into what is current in the quilting world.

After lunch Melissa Clifton Sturdivant, will present ways to create beautiful and colorful gardens in small spaces. You will learn which plants to select and how to use containers and small spaces to attract butterflies and hummingbirds in order to create your outdoor living space. Melissa has served as the County Extension Agent for Horticulture in Taylor County for four years. There, she coordinates the Taylor County Master Gardener and Junior Master Gardener Programs, and provides horticultural support and services to homeowners and green industry professionals throughout the region. Melissa earned her Masters of Science degree in Horticulture from Texas Tech University.

There will also be a silent auction, door prizes, and a covered dish luncheon served by Extension Education Club members. Admission for all or part of the day is by voluntary donation. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and the programming begins at 9:30 a.m.
