Thursday, May 7, 2009 • Posted May 7, 2009

The Lower Colorado River Authority, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Texas AgriLife Extension Service will host a Brush and Weed control program on Wednesday May 13th at the Stewardson Ranch. We will meet at the NRCS office at 8:45 a.m. and then travel to the Stewardson Ranch south of San Saba.

Steve Nelle, NRCS, will present the plant identification portion of the program. If you have plants you would like to have identified please bring them. If you can harvest them the morning of the program it will be best. Dr. Allan McGinty, Extension Range Specialist from San Angelo, will discuss the Brush Busters program. Management of prickly pear, mesquite, and cedar are species of interest. Equipment, timing, and herbicides for control of these invasive plants will be covered. Pedro Carlucci, Dow Agro Sciences, will present the weed plot information. He will cover the different pasture weed herbicides available on the market, all their features and benefits, and timing of application. New products will be introduced, as well as a line of non-restricted products.

There is NO charge for the program. Three Continuing Education Units will be given for those with pesticide licenses. Please bring your lawn chair. There will be no seating on site. Contact the Extension office if there are any questions. (325) 372-5416
