Irene Jones-Head passed away May 3rd, 2009 at Rollins Brook Hospital in Lampasas, Texas. She was born April 28th 1912 in the Locker Community in San Saba, Texas to Newt Jackson Griffay & Mary Bell Churchwell. She was 97 years old. Irene was married to Sam Jones November 19th 1932 of San Saba, he passed away in 1966. She then married Joe Head on February 5th, 1971 and he passed away November 1996.

Irene leaves behind a daughter, Vemette Harkey and her husband, Tommy of Lampasas, Texas. Grandchildren, Debbie Blakley of Izoro; Connie Hartmann of Lampasas; Jan Torres; Lee Jones; Jennifer Moskowitz; Utanah Crain; Don Harris; Frank Gage; Evelyn Doyle; Travis Gage & Melton Gage of Austin; Linda Skloss & Anita Skloss of San Antonio, Texas. Numerous great & great-great grandchildren.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Sam Jones & Joe Head; one son, Jackson Jones; one grandson, Glenn Gage; one granddaughter, Mae; three brothers, John; Ernest; and Wesley Griffay and one sister, Vealvia Hopson.

Services will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George McHorse officiating. Interment will follow at China Creek Cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
