Tayler Hibler advances to state Tennis tournament

The San Saba Tennis Team took seven players to the Region I - 2AA Tennis Tournament on April 21-22 in Odessa, Texas. Tayler Hibler led the way by crushing her opponents in route to a regional championship in Girls Singles.

In the first round, Hibler defeated Kayla Sierra from Littlefield 6-1, 6-0. In the quarterfinals, Hibler defeated Brityn Helms from Floydada 6-0, 6-1. In the semifinals, Tayler took on Samanth Guerrero from Big Lake and won 6-2, 6-0. In the finals, Hibler defeated the number 2 seeded player in the tournament, Janee Denmen, from Dimmitt 6-2, 6-0. By winning regionals, Tayler Hibler qualified for the state tournament that will be held on May 11-12 at the Lakeway World of Tennis Courts in Lakeway.

Tarah Crosby and Nicole Sears played in the Girls Doubles Division at regionals.

In the first round, Crosby and Sears defeated a very good doubles team of Katia Hejl and Shelby Hirt of Wall 6-2, 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Crosby and Sears ran into a strong team from Bowie, Katie Stallcup and Kara Stuckey and were defeated by a score of 6-2, 6-2.

In Boys Doubles, Chase Key and Diego Gonzales were defeated by Noel Contreras and Brock Heimtzelman of Big Lake by a score of 6-3, 6-0.

In Mixed Doubles, Ariela De Giuli and Marshall McIntosh were defeated by Shelby Blakenship and Jonathon Forga of Big Lake 6-0, 3-6, 6-0.

All the players played very well and gained valuable experience as all except Ariela De Giuli will be returning next year.

This will be Tayler’s second appearance at the state tournament as she played last year as a sophomore and came in third place. Tayler Hibler will play her quarterfinal match on May 11th, at 10:15 a.m., everyone who can is encouraged to come out and support her at State. She will be among 7 other girls going after the state title.

The other seven girls playing in Girls Singles are: Janee Denman of Dimmitt, Emily Lobnitz of Sunnyvale, Molly Welch of Peaster, the defending state champion, Kayla Casey of Franklin, Shana Landry of Kirbyville, Kaitlyn Reed of Salado and Mallory Beach of Little River Academy.
