The news this week is light. It must have washed away with rain. Everyone is excited about the rain and that is about all they are talking about. More than 3 ½ inches of rain fell by 2:30 p.m. and light rain was still coming down at 3:00 p.m.

The river was rising and running out its banks. It came up so fast it surprised Jimmy Light who lost a red mule and a paddle boat to the fast rising water. He had two pickups stuck on the river and had a couple of boats in jeopardy. With the help of Bill Price and Tommie Tinney one pickup was pulled to safety and one small river boat and motor was saved. The four wheel drive black pickup was mired down and wouldn’t budge. A call was made to Hamricks and a truck was dispatched, but couldn’t get down close enough to get the winch chain down to the pickup. A call was made to Phil B McCoury and he came down with some additional chains which made it possible to pull the pickup free and up to safety and the boat and trailer was also pulled up. It was some scarey moments for Jimmy. If anyone happens to see a paddle boat and a red mule call Jimmy at 628-3484.

Jack and LaNell Daniels went down to the river to get in some fishing this past week before the rain came. They may have lots more waterfront now than they had before the rain.

Bill and Jo Price spent all day in Belton Friday attending a workshop for the Ombudsman training along with Harrison Hamer. There was people from Lampasas, Gatesville, Belton, Temple, Killeen, Hamilton and Pearl. It is always good to meet with other Ombudsman and learn of new things that is available for nursing home residents.

Lafayne Porter reported that her great- granddaughter Allison Hendrick and two other girls were at Stephenville Saturday to perform at the Opry Show that they have there. Each girl sang more than one solo and the crowd really appreciated hearing the girls sing. Allison is the daughter of Jason and Stacey Hendrick.
