This past week we had a storm roll through Cherokee. The thunder clapped, the hail beat leaves from the trees and pelted the flowers and gardens that had been planted. Some areas had a lot of rain and others had little, but it was a stormy and wet day. The rain was a welcome sight for everyone.

Paul would say in the book of Philippians, “And my God will fill your every need according to His riches, in glory, in Christ Jesus.” (4:19, Recovery Version) What a wonderful and true thought. God provides for all of our needs. Anything that you need God has control over and can give it to you. This is a promise that is true and can be seen from the promises he made and fulfilled throughout the Old and New Testaments.

We need to note that Paul did not say that God would provide for our “greeds.” There are things that we want sometimes but they are not needed. I may want a new computer, but do I need one? I may want a new car, but do I need one? I may want...but do I need...? My needs are very basic. I need food to sustain my life, I need shelter to protect me from the elements, and I need clothing that will keep me warm and cover my body. God provides these for me. They may not always be the kinds of foods I like, the kind of clothes I want or the kind of shelter I prefer, but He provides. And I am thankful.

I am thankful when He sends the rain at just the right time as He did last week. It may not have been as much as I wanted, but I believe my needs were met. What an awesome God He is!

How about you? Are you thankful for the everyday things that God continues to provide or are you always wanting more and better? God knows best. We must trust Him and believe He will provide at just the right time.
