Raylee Pannell winner of DRT Essay Contest

Raylee Pannell was a special guest at the April 2nd meeting of the San Saba River DRT Chapter held at the Rylander Library. She read her essay on “Jose Antonio Navarro-A True Texas Hero” to members and guests.

San Saba River DRT Chapter Essay Contest Chairman, Rosemary Cox, presented Raylee with two plaques, one for local winner and also one for Dist. V winner, $25 cash award and a letter of congratulations.

Guests were Raylee’s parents, Dana and Jeff Pannell; also visiting teachers were Linda Culpepper 4th grade teacher and Kim Robbins Technology and Gifted & Talented teacher; and Karolyn Russell, retired history teacher, from Llano, Texas.

The purpose of the State Outstanding Texas Essay Contest is to stimulate interest in the early history of Texas for students in the 4th and 7th grades across Texas. This year’s subjects were 4th grade “Jose Antonio Navarro” and 7th grade “Angel of Goliad.” Each year DRT also offers awards to the outstanding Texas History Teacher.
