UIL academic and athletic competition in the spring of the year is packed full of events and competition that have students and staff traveling far distances. San Saba ISD is in its first year of UIL re-alignment and in a new competitive UIL district. With realignment comes both good and not so good things. One of the things that is very different for us this year is the distance traveled to area and regional events. In our previous UIL competitive district we travel great distances for regular district play but regional and advanced competition was held closer to home in Abilene.

Let me explain what type of travel is involved with success. Last week our One Act Play group advanced to the Area One Act Play competition. This was a great honor, but also required extensive travel. Area competition was at Howard College in Big Springs. The opportunity to participate and the knowledge and experience gained from this type of competition is of great value to our programs and for our young competitors. Competition at this level is what makes our students strong emotionally, competitively and motivated to succeed.

The UIL Regional Academic, tennis, track and golf events will all take place in Odessa. It is a great honor for our students to advance to Regional Events, but at the same time, we must all recognize and be aware of the toll this takes on our students, staff members and the budget. It takes people to compete, people to supervise and budget to support the competition and fortunately San Saba ISD is able to support our students and staff. We appreciate the support both financially and emotionally for our staff and our young competitors. The kiddos have had so many well wishes and high-fives bestowed upon them, and they all realize how much their hard work will pay off for them personally in the future and for our school.

Please support these folks as they advance to the next levels of competition and as they bring recognition to our community and to our school. Good Luck Regional Competitors!
