Rita Luna (Granny), 81, of Brownwood, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2009 in Brownwood. Rita was born May 22, 1927 in McGrew, Nebraska, the daughter of Joseph Canchola and Mary Perez Canchola. On September 1943 Luther Medrano and Rita Canchola were married in McGrew, Nebraska. She was a life long resident of San Saba and attended the Catholic Church.

Rita is survived by her son, Raymond Medrano of Michigan; her daughters, Mary Sanchez and her husband, Anselmo of Austin; Vickie Contreras and her husband, Bruno of Round Rock; and Angela Torres and her husband, Ray of San Saba; her grandchildren ,Stanley Fairchild; Cocoa Fairchild; Nick Fairchild; Samatha Fairchild; Bryan Fairchild; Bruno Contreras Jr. and his wife, Yvonne; Armando Contreras; Raymond Contreras and his wife, Lodie; Raymond Medrano Jr., Michael Medrano; Rita Jean Medrano; Kim Torres; Michael Torres; Adam Torres and Abel Medrano; Numerous Great-grandchildren and Great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Celia Napuaolek of Paloima, California; Celestine Canchola of Paloima, California; Elvira Conchola of Paloima, California and several Nieces and Nephews.

Rita is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, two grandchildren, one brother and two sisters.

Services will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will follow at San Saba City Cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, April 14th from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel. At 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14th a Rosary will be held at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel.

The family requests that memorials be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
