On Thursday March 26, 2009, the San Saba volunteer EMS hosted an "Open House" where residents of San Saba County were invited to spend some time "behind the scenes" and see where many of our volunteers spend their time while on duty. The event was declared a roaring success by the forty (40) visitors, who toured the living and work areas, enjoyed the vast array of refreshments, and watched a live demonstration by our trained EMS staff during a simulated emergency. Guests listened to the emergency page-out by S.O. dispatcher Mona Dickerson then watched Mollye Huffstetler, Jill Miller, and Jody Wilder as they rendered aid to our "Victim" and new EMS President, Darrel Spinks. (There were audible gasps from the audience as Darrel was placed on a backboard and "extracted" from two folding chairs!" Guests also received informative hand-outs, free blood pressure checks, and information about our upcoming classes from our new instructors, Melissa Stevens and Tami Keeter. (Tami and Melissa expressed amazement at the level of support we receive from our community!) Visitors also participated in drawings for 26 door prizes. We offer you all our heart-felt thanks!
