Youth Basketball League donates to fund
Thursday, April 9, 2009 • Posted April 9, 2009

Young school age children in the community of San Saba have the opportunity to participate in many sports programs after school hours and on weekends. The San Saba Youth Basketball League is one of those programs that promotes basketball skills, competition, good sportsmanship and exercise. This group recently hosted a Youth Basketball Tournament at San Saba ISD. The group hosted 25 teams from surrounding communities and 4 teams from San Saba.

The tournament was very successful which allowed the program to donate funds to various projects. Among the projects receiving donations was the San Saba High School Tunnel Project. The San Saba High School BCIS II class under the directions of teacher, Colleen Womack identified the need for increased school spirit and community motivation and involvement. The group identified the run-through tunnel as means to accomplish this and they have been working to raise the necessary funds to make their purchase.

The Youth Basketball League wanted to support the project by donating $500 toward the purchase of the tunnel. The group also donated $500 to San Saba ISD to be allocated to other athletic programs.
