Thursday, April 2, 2009 • Posted April 2, 2009

The San Saba Junior Lady Dillos (21-7) picked up a third place finish in the Early basketball tournament this past weekend. The tournament was by far the largest tournament of the year as it hosted 17 teams in the girls 5th/6th grade division.

Brownwood was the tournament champion with Comanche finishing second, San Saba third, Bangs fourth, Stephenville fifth and Coleman sixth.

En route to their third place finish, the Lady Dillos reached a major milestone that is very rarely achieved in little dribblers basketball, a 20 win season.

Earlier in the year, the Lady Dillos participated in the six team Cen-Tex Basketball League and swept through the league going undefeated to claim the league championship, Marble Falls finished second while Burnet finished third.

In the 10 team field of the San Saba tournament the Lady Dillos finished second as they dropped a heartbreaking loss to Brownwood in the championship game, 19-16.

Once again the Lady Dillos would finish runner-up to Brownwood in the Goldthwaite basketball tournament, this time a 20- 15 loss in the title game.

The Lady Dillos are lead by point guard, McKenna Maxcey and post, Tori Bauerschlag. Guard, Joy Trujillo provides a strong outside shooting threat while post, Ashlyn Turner has proven to be a solid rebounder.

Hailey Osbourn has shown to be the most versatile player on the team by starting at guard and also splitting time at the post and point guard positions. Leigh Riggs adds some quickness to the defensive side of the ball while adding some perimeter shooting. Fourth grader, Saveria Vasquez has contributed some valuable minutes since her mid-season addition to the team.

The Lady Dillos will wrap up the 2009 season with an appearance at the Priddy basketball tournament this weekend.

The Lady Dillos will tip-off at 8:15 p.m. on Friday night (April 3) against the Goldthwaite Lady Eagles.
