The burn ban went back on last Friday. There were reports of fires in different parts of the county.
There was a promise of rain Tuesday and by the time you read this, you will know if it is true or not. Let us all hope it is true.
It sure looks like Spring is here to stay, as the mesquites and some of the pecan trees are leafing out, but then they have been fooled before. The scissor-tails have not appeared as of yet, but the little humming birds are busy sucking up the sugar water and birds are beginning to build nests.
The Bend Community meeting went off as scheduled Saturday night with plenty of good food and the entertainment furnished by the two from Lampasas was really good. A large group listened to the music of Clark Corbin and Jim Boring of Lampasas before and after the business meeting. It was decided by the majority of members that a new cookbook should be printed.
The ladies of the Bend area are going to be asked to submit some new recipes. The new cookbook will be a three-ring binder with a padded cover. It will take some time, but it should be a really nice book. There are still a few of the old cookbooks available. Contact Winnie Lou McCoury to obtain one or the store in Cherokee and in San Saba the G & R grocery, in Lampasas the Shooting Star and The Petal Peddlers still have them available.
Visitors from out of town who attended the Bend Community meeting were Rob and Nancy Zaborac of Ft. Worth and from Lampasas Seddan and Marlin Corbin, Suzie Tindall, Martha Jones Wallis, Anneta Darrow, Selena Bosley and son, Rick and Luci Harrison.
Calvin Henniger and son Kelly of Pasadena, Texas were in at the Bend this last week visiting with relatives. They came in to pickup their travel trailer from the deer lease and stopped in at Hamrick’s to put new tires on before taking it back to Pasadena. Brother R.J. invited them down for steaks that he cooked. Speaking of R.J., he underwent surgery on his right shoulder last Monday in Fredericksburg and was supposed to be taking it easy, but he has been on the go just about every day this past week. He has words of wisdom to those who are thinking about going under the knife-"run don’t walk if the word surgery comes up."
Jolene Lively enjoyed the company of her daughter Debbie January of Waco and granddaughter Amy Stewart and her great-grand daughter Megan of Copperas Cove during the Spring Break.
The Clark clan made it back from Colorado just fine Thursday. Jane was ill when they left, but got over the illness while in the mountains and returned home hale and hardy.
Sunday Pennye Pierce and her grandchildren from Lometa and the Messer grand-children Jordan and Jaylee, Jamie Houdyshell and her two boys A. J. and Andrew all enjoyed a wiener roast and the boys enjoyed playing in the creek.
