Local Actor/Filmmaker plays Triple Role in Film Premiering at Austin's Film Festival
Thursday, March 26, 2009 • Posted March 26, 2009

San Saba, Texas based actor and filmmaker, L. Christian Mixon played three roles in the feature film, Exterminators, though only two appeared on the screen.

Mixon was the Transportation Coordinator for the film, Picture Car Coordinator / Precision driver as well as an actor in an on-screen role with Sam Lloyd, best known as Ted the Attorney on ABC’s Scrubs. The film premiered on March 13, 2009 at the opening night of Austin’s SXSW Film Festival.

The film is a dark comedy about 3 women who meet in a court-mandated anger management group. After accidentally killing the abusive husband of one of the group’s members, two of the women start an unconventional business as “ex-terminators”.

The film stars Heather Graham and Jennifer Coolidge, and was shot on a tight 25 day schedule in May of 2008.

The Transportation Coordinator is a department head that is responsible for hiring drivers, procuring equipment and moving the company from location to location. It is a position that requires a lot of logistical planning to ensure that all of the equipment and personnel are where they need to be for the cameras to keep rolling.

The Picture Car Coordinator is responsible for all of the vehicles that appear in the film, from the background cars to the “Hero Cars” driven by the lead actors.

Since one of the characters (Coolidge), uses cars as a weapon, the script required quite a few picture cars. There were two major vehicle stunts that included a car going through a wall, and one going over a cliff and exploding. The script also called for a high-end sports car when the money starts pouring in from the “business”.

Normally, the Transportation Coordinator and Picture Car Coordinator are two separate positions, but due to the film’s small 1.5 million dollar budget, Mixon took on both roles and even handled the precision driving in one scene with a 1969 Corvette that is seen speeding away from a restaurant. “On a low budget film, you have to wear a lot of hats” said Mixon, “That’s what you sign on for when you take the job.”

A professional actor since joining SAG after a role in Robert Duvall’s 1997 “The Apostle”, Mixon was also cast to play the Academy Instructor opposite actor Sam Lloyd. The scene is a flashback covering how Lloyd’s character “chose” to become an IRS agent after flunking out of the police academy.

Mixon and his wife Linda are also producing partners and have two documentaries and two feature films in development.
