The San Saba Tennis Team played in the 2A & Under State Team Tennis Tournament on March 13-14. Teams playing in the State Tournament this year were Mason, Comfort, White Oak, Shallowater, San Saba, Rice, Crane, Kirbyville, Wall, Knippa, Floydada, Brock, Krum, Franklin, Somerville, and Reagon County.

Friday’s play was completely rained out so the Armadillos had to play 4 teams on Saturday. In the first round San Saba defeated Rice 9 to 0, in the second round the Armadillos faced Kirbyville and lost 7 to 2. In the third round San Saba defeated White Oak 5 to 4. In the fourth round for 5th and 6th Place San Saba lost to Brock 7 to 2. Mason defeated Reagon County in the finals to win the State Championship.

The tennis team played very well in the state tournament. To come in 6th place with such a young team is a tribute to the hard work and determination of these kids. Playing in the tournament were Tayler Hibler, Ariela De Giuli, Tarah Crosby, Nicole Sears, Regan Hartranft, Kelli Cox, Lauren Dawson, Brittany Moreno, Haylee Oliver, Chase Key, Marshall McIntosh, Kobe Cisneroz, Diego Gonzales, Houston Casco, Josh Raiford, Reid Casco, Jose Vega, Alex Rangel, Ryan Plumley, and B.J. Harbour.

The tennis team will now focus on individual tennis. The district tournament will be on April 6-7, in Brady. This week San Saba will host a tournament on Wednesday and Thursday. Girls Singles and girls doubles will play on Wednesday, and boys singles, boys doubles and mixed doubles will play on Thursday. Teams entered in the tournament are, Llano, Brady, Liberty Hill, Florence, Waco Robinson, Goldthwaite and San Saba. If you get a chance come out to support the tennis team on March 18-19.
