The Pierian Study Club met March 12, 2009 at San Saba High School for their annual treat of viewing the One Act Play. This has been a tradition for several years and everyone looks forward to supporting the youth and enjoying their special talents.

Hostesses for this meeting were: Zolly Jones, Paula Barrier, Loy Nell Behrens, Shannon Merriwether, Elsie Millican, Polly Womack, and Louise Williams. Other members in attendance were: Gail Bruner, Millie Burnham, Janiece Duggan, Barbara Gilger, Barbara Hardy, Kathleen Hawkins, Joycelyn McRorey, Dorothy Miller, Kay Nettleship, Susie Nettleship, Clione Rochat, Patty Shaw, Sandy Smith, Geanne Taylor, Martha Roe Terry, Trish Warren, and Martha Leigh Whitten.

The members were served a delicious fruit punch and in fitting with the St. Patrick’s day theme, cookies with green, of course, icing and the cast and crew went for them!

The name of the One Act Play was “Tracks” and it had a very unusual concept that varied from most one act plays. The cast found themselves in a subway station and discovered they were all dead and they had to decide whether the train passing goes to heaven or hell. They reflected on their good deeds and their bad and it was a moving presentation that the young people delivered in a very believable professional way. Credit goes to Elizabeth Chambers and Howard Jason, the directors of the play, for this outstanding performance. The Pierian Study Club wishes the One Act Play good luck and ‘break a leg’!

There was a short business meeting following the presentation.

It was announced that the April meeting date has been changed because of the Easter holidays to April 16, 2009 and will be held at the Methodist Church where we will be honored to have our own Harlene Sadler give a book review. Harlene has entertained the study club before and it was such a joy. You don’t want to miss this meeting!
