San Saba ISD School Board holds regular meeting March 9th

The San Saba Independent School District Board of Trustees met for a Regular Meeting on Monday, March 9th at the Central Administration Office at 7 p.m. President Darrin Barker called the meeting to order followed by the invocation. Everyone joined for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

The San Saba Lady Dillos and Coach Tony Taylor were in attendance at the beginning of the meeting. President Barker and Superintendent Leigh Ann Glaze gave them recognition as Area Basketball Champions. Cake and a drink were enjoyed to celebrate their accomplishments.

Richard Taylor was introduced as the Interim High School Principal to replace Principal Underwood. It was an interesting first day for Taylor with a full day of school, Open House and a School Board Meeting.

Superintendent Glaze gave the following information:

1. Current enrollment for the district is 688.

2. The April School Board meeting was set for 6 p.m., April 13th.

3. School awards will be handed out by President Barker at the City Recognition Banquet Thursday, March 12th.

4. The Broadband Wireless Project will be implemented with a huge price break.

5. Worth the Wait post survey will be started very soon.

6. The School Calendar Options for 2009-2010 was discussed.

7. Gave information regarding legislation that could save the district $150,000 per year in Social Security costs for non-professional staff.

The following consent agenda was approved:

a. The regular minutes and executive session minutes from February 12th and special meeting, February 25th.

b. Amended 2008-2009 budget.

c. Payment of bills

d. Financial report

e. Application and agreement for Commodities for 09-10 school year.

f. Election Officials for May 9, 2009 Board of Trustees Election.

g. Reviewed fees and election compensation for May 9th election.

Assistant Superintendent Ashley Stewart reported on Tests and CSCOPE with Superintendent Glaze mentioning the curriculum guide.

Middle School Principal/Athletic Director/Coach/Assistant Coach Pannell gave his reports first so that he could attend a game.

Attendance at the Middle School is 212 with a 98.6 average. MS is involved in pictures; track; Spring Break; Book Fair; Family Night Book Fair; 8th grade registration; cheerleading tryouts; students of the week; tennis; baseball at Mill Pond Classic; Power Lifting; and recognized the great basketball season.

High School Principal Underwood distributed a high school Hardshell Press and reported 203 students; pictures; cheerleading tryouts; Skills USA; softball; baseball; golf; tennis; power lifting; Academics and the One Act Play; Spring Break.

During the New Business, the Board approved to generate funding for the Pregnancy Related Services and designated Klein, Kraus & Co. of Fredricksburg as auditor for two years.

President Barker adjorned the meeting and announced a short break before the Executive Session. Those attending the meeting were: President Darrin Barker; Secretary Bob Whitten; Vice President Marcie Maxcey; Suiperintendent Leigh Ann Glaze; Assistant Superintendent Ashley Stewart; Trustees Susie Nettleship, Elmo Davis, Angela Johnson, Kim Kirk; Administrative Assistant Jackie Dyer; Principals, Underwood; Pannell; Taylor; Middle School Counselor Vicki Key and San Saba News & Star Reporter Alice Smith.

During the Executive Session contracts were extended for teachers as presented.

With regrets, accepted resignations from Ellen Benevidez, left the end of February, and Elementary Principal, Bruce Tabor leaving the end of June.
