On Sunday morning around 12:30 a.m. an individual or individuals started a series of grass fires in both Llano and San Saba Counties. Cherokee, Richland Springs, Elm Grove, San Saba, and Pontotoc Fire Departments, as well as the San Saba Sheriff's Office and the San Saba Police Department, spent nearly four hours battling 10 separate fires. Chief Chris Perry of the Cherokee Fire Department led the battle and was assisted by Assistant Chief Johnie Shahan of the San Saba Fire Department. Numerous resources were involved in the fighting of these fires and no major damage was reported. Llano County also reported 10 separate fires and were scrambling with all their units, as well.

The San Saba Sheriff's Department is assisting Llano with the ongoing investigation. Sheriff Bill Blackburn of the Llano Sheriff's Office, and Sheriff Brown of the San Saba Sheriff's Department are asking people to call in any suspicious activity in their area. Sheriff Brown stated that there were numerous structures close to some of these fires and that these individuals need to be stopped. If anyone has any information concerning this matter please contact the San Saba County Sheriff’s Department at 325-372-5551.
