Jie Tae Kang a 10th grade exchange student at Cherokee ISD has returned home to Korea. Jie Tae spent the last six months in our home. He was a wonderful asset to the 10th grade class, school and community. He was introduced to many new things in the past year, among his favorites were Church at Cherokee First Baptist. He loved going to Church and learning about God. He was given his first Korean Bible by Jody and Katheriene Simmons and would stay up late reading it at night. He also loved basketball and football.

When you asked Jie Tae who his favorite teacher was at school he would always say “All of Them.” Jie Tae formed many close relationships with students in the community and considered everyone here his friend. Jie Taes’ best friend, Josh Perry was a constant encouragement to him. Before leaving the United States Jie Tae had the wonderful opportunity of visiting “NASA” thanks to two very special teachers (Rita Boultinghouse and Dixon Seider), that truly was an awesome experience for him. When I open up the pantry and see the package of sea weed I remember how much fun it was to have such an awesome young man like Jie Tae in our home. Thanks to everyone who made his stay so special.
